Don’t Get Jealous, Get Inspired

We live in a time of faux perfection. Social media makes it so easy to present a perfect life. Photoshop and filters make it possible for everyone to “have” their dream body and radiant skin. So it’s not surprising that more and more people are beginning to feel unfulfilled with their life. There’s a saying that goes, “Don’t  compare your behind the scenes moments to everyone else’s highlight reel”, and that is exactly correct. No one is perfect and no one’s life is as great as their Instagram account.
However, we all know that! We all know that models in magazines don’t look the same in person. We know that fashion bloggers aren’t paying for their expensive wardrobes and that mommy blogger’s kids cry and embarrass them just like everyone else’s. Unfortunately, that knowledge doesn’t stop us from wishing that we could be as effortlessly sexy as a Victoria Secret Model or as put together as our favorite Youtuber. We’ve grown accustom to the fakery and have convinced ourselves that maybe they’re not perfect but they are still better than us, in some way or another.
It would be easy to write a blog post telling everyone to just STOP! To stop looking up to images that don’t exist. To stop wasting your time wishing you could travel as much as this girl or be as happy as this family. But the truth is, having desires and goals is good. And if some DIY Mommy Blogger convinces you to play with your kids more, then that’s great. If an image on a magazine gives you the motivation to hit the gym twice as hard, then more power to you.
Due to the increase in curated lives and staged happiness, the message that perfection isn’t attainable is being stressed more than ever. But perfection is real. You can have the perfect life… for you. The perfect body… for you. Perfection is in the eye of the beholder.
So the next time you see someone with something that you wish you had, don’t get jealous. Get inspired. Get inspired to achieve your own goals. Get inspired to create a life that you love and that is perfect for you. Jealousy is a useless emotion that will never help you to move forward. We need to remove that word from our vocabulary and that thought from our minds and instead find the right replacement.
Whenever you feel yourself becoming jealous try to replace the word jealous with one of these 5 phrases instead. Take charge of your life!

5 Things to say instead of jealous

  • Inspired by

  • Motivated to

  • Appreciative that

  • Happy for

  • Determined to achieve
