A little about the #didsomething campaign…
On May 1st, 2016, Kindness in Demand launched the #didsomething campaign with a kindness initiative aimed at helping the homeless. Each month we introduce a new kindness challenge. We’re assembling an amazing team of community leaders, bloggers, service organizers and other public figures to help spread the word and the involvement of every single person who participates is making waves in communities all across the country. To find out how you can participate in June’s Date Night challenge, see below.
Your involvement would include 4 simple steps:
1) Take your child(ren) out on a one-on-one date
Don’t have children? No problem. Nephews, nieces, godchildren, cousins, grandchildren, etc. all count. One-on-one quality time spent with a child in a mentor role is vital to their development.
2) Snap a pic on your date and post it on Instagram
Post the pic any time in June with a caption answering these two questions:
1) What did you learn about your child on the date?
2) Why is it important to spend quality time with your children?
3) Spread the love
Encourage your followers to join the #didsomething campaign and participate in June’s Date Night challenge.
4) Use the #didsomething label
And please tag @kindness.in.demand so we can see all your great pictures!
Kindness in Demand’s Creative Director participated in the challenge and took her 4-year-old son on a date. Here’s what she had to say:
I have two young boys and the majority of my day is hectic addressing both their needs. They are always around each other and both demand my attention, usually at the same time (of course). Every day resembles the next with vicious cycles of fighting over toys, making and cleaning up messes, whining, crying and dragging ourselves all over town for activities. It’s a balancing act and spending relaxed quality time with only one of them at a time is rare. That’s why I love the #DidSomething Campaign’s June kindness initiative. It encourages you to break out of your routine, do something fun, and spend great quality time with your kids. I recently took my 4-year-old out to the movies for date night. It was his first time at the movie theater and it was amazing to watch the experience unfold for him. I loved every minute of his excitement. To answer the #DidSomething campaign’s two questions: 1) I learned my son LOVES popcorn. It was his first time trying it and he was in HEAVEN! and 2) I think it’s important to spend quality time with your kids because they need a break in the cycle as much as you do. I think we get caught up in routines and we go on auto-pilot to get through each day. Our attention is fragmented and we’re going through the motions, but not truly present. My son was thrilled to go on our date night. I could see his eyes light up; it was great to have uninterrupted conversations; and I could tell he truly needed the escape just as much as I did. It was a great experience and I encourage you guys to do it too!!!
